A RECORD TRIP.
TAMAROA REGAINS LAURELS. FAST PASSAGE TO NEW ZEALAND. (Special to Daily Times.) AUCKLAND, April 30. The Tamaroa has regained her laurels for the fastest time on the Southampton to New Zealand trip. She arrived in port at 10.30 p.m. last night, having taken only 30 days 8 hours and 38 minutes actual steaming time on the voyage. The vessel cleared Southampton on March 28, and, apart from a stop of 14 hours at Balboa, she made the trip to Auckland direct. She enjoyed excellent weather throughout until she encountered the boisterous conditions that have been prevailing near New Zealand for the past few days. The Tamaroa’s chief engineer (Mr J. S. Macintosh) ascribes the vessel’s performances to the fact that recently her turbines were rebladed and new propellers were fitted./ This is her ‘second voyage since the alterations were carried out. He also considered that they are responsible for a reduction in the fuel consumption. On this last trip the Tamaroa’s fuel consumption was 73,7 tons of fuel oil" per 24 hours. Her average speed on the voyage was. one knot more than when her fuel consumption was 84 tons. This, again, is due to the turbine alterations.
