PREFERENCE OF EMPLOYMENT. SUITABILITY A PRIMARY FACTOR. (Special to Dajlv Times.) AUCKLAND, April 30. The Auckland Transport Board this morning defined its attitude towards the problem of “ New Zealand jobs for New Zealanders,” and laid it down that suitability must be the first consideration. Incidentally, the chairman (Mr J. A. C. Allum) said there as no dissension whatever in the service. It came from outside. Letters bad been received from the New Zealand Natives’ Association asking that preference should be given to New Zealanders both in the tramway service and also on the extensions to be undertaken. It was resolved —“ That the letters be received and the writer notified that, in engaging the staff, the suitability of the applicant is the primary consideration; that workers on extensions will not be encouraged to come from outside the board’s district, and that considera? tion will be given to the claims,of workers living within or adjacent to the board’s district.”
