THE CITY RATING SYSTEM.
TO THE EDITOR. Sir,—As one .-who has experienced the High cost of rating. I am perfectly persuaded that the City Council has neglected its duty in not having had the important matter of the rating svstem looked mto rears ago. I desire to'point out that, as far as I am concerned, one candidate for election for the mayoralty has heen outspoken, pointing out the enormous amount of money that will be required during the next three vears or so —something like £1,000,000. Unless some money is procured as suggested bv this candidate, the city will be faced with a further rate of 9d to is in' the £ on the top of our present rate of 4s sd, and, as the valuations have been doubled in the last 10 years, I feel that a change is necessary and.- that the electors should seriously consider the candidature .of Mr John M'Donald. I speak as a responsible business man who is controlling a secondary industry in this town.—l am, etc., Manufacturer.
