THE WAIPORI NEGOTIATIONS.
TO THE EDITOR. _ Sir,—ln order to make clear my position with regard to selling the Waipori headworks to the Government, I wish to state that I am in favour of selling only if.fetich conditions can be secured as wiil protect the consumers for all time in regard to the cost of power and lighting. Unless such conditions can be secured, then I shall strenuously oppose any sale. Ten or 15 years hence the total capacity of Waipoir -will fall short of the city's requirements, but this does not affect the question of selling or not selling. Another source of. power must be drawn on to make tip this shortage, and the Covwnment will probably be the supplier. Ihe present supply cannot be increased until Iso. 3 pipe line is completed, but, unfortunately, this will not relieve the situation for any length of time.—l am etc.. ' April 28. C. H. Hatward.
