NORTH ISLAND MOTOR UNION.
HALF-YEARLY MEKTI\G. (Peb United Press Association.) ’ I AUCKLAND, February 14. The half-yearly meeting, of the North' Island Motor Union executive was hfeld here to-day, Mr A. J. Toogood presiding. Delegates were present from Wellington, Napier, Wairarapa, Taranaki, Wanganui, and Auckland. The conflict of ' by-laws and Government- regulations controlling motoring was referred to. It was' stated that motorists wanted definite information whether the. regulations were paramount, and it was decided to approach the Prime Minister (Sir Joseph Ward) on the matter. A letter was received from. Mr, F. W. Furkert,; engineer-in-chief of the Public Works Department, stating that as far as he was aware the validity of the.bylaws fixing the local speed .limits - and in apparent conflict with the regulations had not yet been tested before the Supreme Court. In his oo'iitou n,r- - .;-ii was now made , perfectly clear by the regulations. Sub-section .» o.
of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1924, .provided that the regulations should override any local by-laws which were inconsistent with or repugnant to the regulations. He did not see that anything further could be done at present to make the position clearer.
