OBITUARY.
MR ROBERT BEECHER WARD. (Special to Daily Times.) CHRISTCHURCH, February 14. The death occurred last evening of Mr Robert Beecher Ward. He was 7 the second son of the Rev. C. E. Ward and the late Mrs Ward. Mr Ward was a partner in the legal firm of Messrs Weston, Ward and Lascelles, and had been connected with the firm for nearly 24 years. His illness commenced three weeks ago during a visit to Melbourne to witness the third test match. Mr Ward was born in ‘lnvercargill in 1880, and received his early education in Wellington and Dunedin, completing it at Prince Albert College, After leaving college he .joined' the accountancy staff of 'the Kauri Timber Company in Auckland and then took a position with the Kaiapoi Woollen Company in Christchurch. In March, 1905, he joined the legal firm of Messrs. T." Weston and Son, and in 1919 he was admitted to a partnership in the' firm which is now known as Messrs Weston, Ward and Lascelles. Mr Ward was married in ,1911 to Miss Ellen Graham Brown, of Nelson. He is, survived" by his widow and one-daughter. In athletic circles Mr Ward was very prominent, and was -for many, years a bulwark of Canterbury Cricket' both jon the playing and on the administrative sides. As honorary .treasurer of"' the Canterbury Cricket Association. over a long period of years he proved to he a most capable director of the financial affairs of the 'association. During his playing days Mr Ward was a member of the East Christchurch Club.. At the time of his death he was chairman of the Lancaster Park Board of Control, a representative of the Cricket Association on the board, and a vice-president of the Canterbury Cricket Association.
MR THOMAS MILROT. The death of Mr Thomas Milroy, one of the early members of the New Zealand railway service,', occurred at - his residence, Windmill road. Mount Eden, on ■ Monday. Mr Milroy was born in Scotland, but spent his boyhood in Ireland, coming to Otago when he. was In his early twenties.. He had letters of introduction which would have assisted him in going on the land, ..but shortly after he arrived he was afforded the opportunity of joining tile railway ser* vice, which was then.. in .. its . infancy. Practically < thc. whole of-his was spent in Otago. :Hc-was,a ineinber of the first executive of the Amalgamated Society of Railway Servants, and later president He' was' also/a, member of the Appeal Board. Two years after ,hc retired, in 1913, Mr Milroy went to Auckland,’ Where he spent the ■ declining years of his lifp. - -He " was an active member of’ the Mount Eden Presbyterian Church, and of; the Mount Eden Bowling Club. Up to the last Mr Milroy maintained an. unflagging interest ;ihVpqlitics, having been a strong supporter of the late Mr Seddon throughout the" Liberal leader’s career. ■ Mr Milroy was in his seventy-seventh year, and is . survived by Mrs Milroy, one son, Dr T. A. Milroy, of Hamilton, and three daughters.
