As a resiilt of .the continued warm weather small fruits '.have been coming in freely, and large quantities of strawberries have been going forward to the various markets. A . record was reached on Mondar morning last, when 359 crates Were railed from the local station. A small portion of, these was, cherries. ' POWER BOARD. At a special meeting of the Power Board held on Thursday evening, to consider tenders, received for the .supply of transformers, the tender of A. D. Riley, and Co., of Wellington, for 4,75 k.v;a. 11,000.0000, was accepted, and that of the National Electric and Engineering Com* pany, Dunedin, for 610 k.v.a. and 27,5 k.v.a. Tho 10’s and B’a are double wound primary 11,000-6000, or . 3000, and will enable the change over at tile south end to be effected without mueh dislocation of supply. Delivery of the small sizes is to be given in three months, and these will be on the Miller’s Flat-Ettrick' circuit,'which is being altered from. 3000 v. to 6000 v. This will release.a similar number of 3000 v. transformers which will bo utilised in the northern area, where, owing to the demand for ranges, the transformer capacity is being severely taxed.' The annual Horticultural trial show held under the auspices of the Anglican Methodist and Presbyterian Churches took place on Wednesday; ' The entries were not up . to.'those of' the pre-. vious year, due probably to the,, fact that the week very busy'one for most people on the land, shearing and strawberry picking being .in full swing. There was a very creditable display in all sections, some .of the exhibits being of high standard, particularly in the flower section.
