REFORMS IN TURKEY
TOE NEW ALPHABET. EFFECT ON THE NEWSPAPERS. (United Press Association.) (By Electrle Telegraph—Copyright.) LONDON, December 2, (Received Dec. 3, at 11 p.m.) The Constantinople correspondent of The Times reports that one outcome of the inauguration of the new Roman characters is prolonged kinema sessions. The captions are accompanied by explanations which the spectators do not readily grasp, and they insist’on the, words remaining- oh. the screen iso long that the performances are much extended. The newspapers quickly adapted themselves . to- the hew conditions, and appeared to-day modelled on those of London and Paris. They have instituted whole- page photographs. The circulartiona have fallen heavily. There is time to read only one newspaper, but the public plods _ through a journal because it is recognised that the reading of newspapers is .the most practical method of becoming accustomed to the new alphabet.; . The. newspapers have imported modern machinery for . the change, and have decided to -adopt the Western makeup, Thus the new 1 characters have entirely revolutionised the.
