Lord Tennyson was born on August 2, 1852. He was a son of the famous poet, and acted as his father’s private secretary .Tor a lengthy period. He wrote a history of his father’s life, and was .the author, of several other notable publications.. He was Governor of South Australia from 1889 to. 1892, Governor-General of the Commonwealth from 1902 to 1904, and was appointed Deputy-Governor of the Isle' of'Wight. He married in 1884 Audrey Boyle, a daughter of Charles Boyle. Ludv Tennyson died in 191(1. and Imvi T<umvson married again, to Mrs A. E; Hichens, the widow ot Andrew. (Special to Daily Times.) , AUCKLAND, December. 3. At the great age of 104 years, Mr William Darragh, sen., Tautanga’s oldest resident, died on Saturday night. He was one of the best known and most highly respected residents .of the district. He was an early settler at Katikati, and later removed to Tauranga, buying a farm just outside the town, where he resided with his son up to the time of his death. Mr Darragh was never quite sure-of his actual birthday, but he always used to celebrate it on Easter Sunday. A few years ago he injured a leg while ploughing on his farm, and this prevented him from getting about without assistance. Except for this he retained all his faculties. His mempty was excellent, and he would relate with gusto many amusing incidents which happened to him on his way to New Zealand from. England in a sading ship when he was a young man His three sons—Messrs William, Samuel and James Darragh—all reside in the Tauranga district. His wife died manv years ago. s «.
