EXPORTS FOR THE YEAR. PREVIOUS RETURNS EXCEEDED. (Fret* Association—By Telegraph—Copyright., CANBERRA, December 20. A parliamentary paper, dealing with the mandated territory of New Guinea, shows that the exports for the year ended June, 1926, exceeded all previous returns with a total of £1,105,000, of which over £1,000,000 was from copra, £25,000 from gold, and £47,000 from shell. The copra exports have steadily increased from 26,000 tons in 1921 to 46,000 tons in 1925-26. The imports have grown in the same period from £469,000 to £568,000. At the Edic Creek goldfield there is a white population of almost 100. Nearly all are returned soldiers. The output of gold for the coming year is expected to show a considerable increase.

The revenue for the year amounted to £259,000, and the expenditure to £243,000 out of revenue. The expenditure out of loan and other funds is not stated. The native taxpayer contributes a tax of 10s per head, returning in 1925-26 nearly £20,000.
