AUSTRALIAN TEAM FOR WIMBLEDON. THE PROPOSAL DISCUSSED. (Pm* A»ool»tlon—By Telegraph—Copyright.) LONDON, February 10. (Received Feb. 11, at 5.5 p.m.) The prospect of an Australian team visiting Wimbledon is at present being given prominence. Mr Powell Blackmore, in the Evening Standard, states: “It would appear that no invitation has yet been extended to Australia, but I suggest that steps should immediately be taken to bring the Australians to Wimbledon in June. Australia’s suggestion that a team should be sent conditional on the English and French authorities assisting in the matter of expenses was submitted to M. Canet, president of the French Federation, who stated: ‘We should certainly be willing to help Australia financially, but the council will first have to know the number of the names of the team.’ It only remains now for the English governing body to take similar action to that of France. Australia’s suggestion is most reasonable, and the presence of Australians at Wimbledon would necessarily afford a great Empire reunion.”—A. and N.Z. Cable.
