UNEMPLOYED RELIEF.
HOSPITAL BOARD’S GRANTS REFUNDS FROM GOVERNMENT. (Per United cress Association.) AUCKLAND, December 22. “I’m quite sure the Prime Minister will not be a party' to such an action as this,” said the chairman of the Auckland Hospital Board when moving the acceptance without prejudice of the Government’s offer of £1463. half of the board’s claim fo>reimbursement of the cost of relief granted to unemployed this year. “It was clearly understood, said the chairman, “that all such expenditure would be refunded, and Cabinet apparently was not aware of the details of tbe interview with the Prime Minister. As long as there is unemployment in the country and immigrants are coming out the provision of unemployed relief is clearly a national question rather than one for individual hospital boards. It is matter of great concern at this period of the year, when all avenues of employment' are open and people are looking forward to a good time at Christmas, that there should be so many out of work.”
The motion was carried unanimously.
