PUBLICITY CAMPAIGN.
NEW THEATRE OPENED. SCENIC AND SPORTING VIEWS. (Special* to Dailv Times.) AUCKLAND, December 22. The new projection theatre of the Publicity Office was officially opened to-day by the Minister in charge of Publicity (the lion. G. J. Anderson) in the presence of the Minister .of Internal Affairs (the Hon. R. F. Bollard), the Mayor (Mr C. J. B. Norwood), Sir John Luke, M.P., and representatives of the Railways and Tourist Departments, Union Steam Ship Company, and other shipping offices. The theatre which is well equipped, provides seating accommodation for over 50 persons, and has been sot up expressly for the purpose of showing New Zealand films daily for the benefit of oversea visitors By this means it is expected that tourists will be persuaded to extend their tours to places not previously included in their itinerary, as occasions have already arisen where several persons were sufficiently attracted by the trout fishing pictures to extend their stay for the purpose of .spending a fortnight at Taupo. Four short pictures were shown to an interested audience to-day, the pictures including topical scenes throughout New Zealand, sheep farming, the kauri timber industry, and winter sports at Mount Cook. The Hon. G. J. Anderson requested those present to co-operate with the department in making the daily showings known amongst oversea visitors. Mr Anderson also referred to the important contract for the release of Now Zealand scenic and sporting films throughout America, by which means the films would be screened in many hundreds of theatres throughout the United States, including the Capitol Theatre, New York —the largest in the world.
