In the Sheffield Shield match between Queensland and Victoria Queensland in its second innings made 217 (Rowe 20, Mayes 70, Gough 21), Victoria won by an innings and 169 runs. Play was delayed for an hour owing to heavy overnight rain. The ground was sloppy, and sawdust was freely used. Mayes and Gough batted well under the difficult conditions, but the other batsmen made a poor showing against the bowling of Ryder and Morton. Victoria made 533 in the first innings and Queensland 147. NEW SOUTH WALES DEFEATS SOUTH AUSTRALIA. ADELAIDE, December 22. (Received Dec. 22, at 11 p.m.) New South Wales, in its second innings against South Australia, made 446 for six wickets (Andrews 126, Kippax 42, Morgan 116, Jackson 56 not out). New South Wales won by four wickets. The weather was cloudy, and the wicket was good. The not-out batsmen carried the score to 189, when Kippax was Smartly thrown out by Pritchard. Andrews and Morgan, despite numerous bowling changes, gave a vigorous display of stylish and attractive batting, and brought the total to 301. Andrews lost his wicket through jumping out to Williams’s first ball after luncheon. Morgan played slashing cricket. He gave one chance I—an 1 —an easy catch at eight, which Grimmett dropped. Jackson played _ a lively punishing game against the tiring bowling, though the fielding was smart.

In its first innings New South Wales made 341. South Australia made 500 and 280.
