OTAGO HOSPITAL BOARD.

MONTHLY MEETING. The monthly meeting of the Otago Hospital Board was held last evening, there being {/resent —Mr W. E. S. Knight (chairman), Mrs Macdonald, Messrs Hancock, Larnach, Morgan, Scurr, Dove, M‘Lenuan, Quelch, Gallaway, and Dr Newlands. . ...... An intimation was received, with thanks, that the late Mr John Mill had bequeathed £IOO to the Port Chalmers Hospital. The Director-general of Health wrote forwarding the Minister’s consent to the expenditure of £15,375 for the erection of a kitchen and dictations block. The Director-general of Health wrote intimating that he would visit the Roxburgh and Tuapeka Hospitals about September 30. —Received. Mr C. F. Overton, Palmerston, wrote that as he was leaving the district ne was unable to accept the appointment of cooptative member of the Palmerston Hospital Committee. He suggested' that Mr W. Hopkins and the Rev. R. L. Richards be appointed.—Referred to the local committee. The Hon. M. Cohen and Mr W. Pickard wrote intimating the donation of £6O from an anonymous source, and £lO 10s from Mrs P. R. Sargood.—Received with thanks. The secretary of the hon. medical staff wrote regarding the training of specialists in ansesthetics that the following resolution had been passed: “That the staff is of the opinion that the best means of gaining special experience is for the junior anaesthetists to obtain private training by arrangement.” The staff meant by this that junior anesthetists would go abroad for training, or to other centres such as Wellington, or Dr Marshall was prepared to give the necessary instructions here privately.—Referred to the Hospital Committee for report. The medical superintendent forwarded a letter from the Director of Hospital Activities, American College of Surgeons, intimating that tho director was sending a hospital standardisation certificate of his college to the Dunedin Hospital.—Received. A letter was received intimating that a firm was prepared to give £7O, the profits made out of certain sales of “Rit-Dye,” on the gift being acknowledged by the board. —Request complied with on receipt of cheque. The board went into committee to consider tho filling of the position of medical superintendent, and it was resolved that the salary be at tho rate of £IOOO per annum, with £IOO house allowance; the ago limit to be preferably 45 years. It was further resolved that applications should close on December 14 next. It was resolved that fresh tenders be called for the supply of bread. It was resolved that two months’ leave of absence be granted to the secretary, who, it was mentioned, had been with the board for 16j years, and that he be granted £4O towards his travelling expenses. A motion by Mr Gallaway that tho salary of the medical superintendent be £I2GO per annum, with house allowance, was not seconded, and it therefore lapsed.
