N.Z. BACON COMPANY.

AN AUSTRALIAN PURCHASE. NEW COMPANY TO BE FORMED. (F'EOm Odb Own Cobbespondent.) WELLINGTON, September 23. The firm of J. C. Hutton (Limited), Australia, is taking over the New Zealand Bacon and Meat Packing Company (Limited), and a new company will be formed with a capital of £250,000. The New Zealand Company was unsuccessful in its operations, and the Bank of New Zealand had to take charge, with, it is understood, the prospect of a heavy loss. It is stated in commercial circles that the Australian company is taking rer the assets and business of the New Zealand company on very favourable terms. The new company will re-engage the present staff and will carry on the operations and works at Wellington, Frankton Junction, Eltham, and Auckland. The new company will be known as J. C. Hutton (N.Z.), Limited. The Hutton firm is the largest company in the Australian bacon trade, with factories in every State, except South Australia, where it has a branch. The company has also interests in the East. Mr E E. Forth, of Brisbane, one of the directors of J. C. Hutton (Limited), Australia, has come over to New Zealand in connection with the formation of the New Zealand company, which will be managed by Mr S. C. Baron, with Mr Colin Munro as secretary.

A. lorns (Pahiatua) was returned unopposed. THE NEW MEMBERS. COMPULSORY CONTROL BOARD. (From Oub Own Correspondent.) WELLINGTON, September 23. This is the first election which has taken place under the ward system brought into operation as a result of the amending legislation passed in the recent session of Parliament. The result is determined by the tonnage rates allotted to dairy export companies in accordance with the quantity of butter and cheese manufactured by the company at the factories in each ward. The sitting member in each case—Mr Dalrymple and Mr Fisher—has been defeated. Both favour the compulsory control of exported dairy produce. On the other hand, Mr Corrigan, a former membei 5 of Parliament, is understood to be a supporter of moderate control, while Mr Timpany himself in his canvassing circular as opposed to absolute control, and in favour of sane moderate control. It is understood that Messrs Corrigan and Timpany also received the greatest number of suppliers’ votes, so that the result of the election would have been the same if the poll had been conducted under that system of voting.
