CHARGES OF FRAUD.
BANKRUPT NEGRO FOUND GUILTY. STRICTURES REGARDING “AG.ENTS.” (Pek United Peess Association.) AUCKLAND, May 9. The trial of Gennaro, a negro, on a charge of failure to keep proper books, wilful concealment of his position from his creditors, and concealing part of his property—namely, £5139—-by traudulently handing it to his brother before his bankruptcy, was concluded in tho Supreme Court. After a short retirement the jury returned a verdict of guilty on all throe counts. They added a rider that, in their opinion, some more drastic regulations were necessary to protect tho public against the open tions of such agents as Russell and Dilworth. iDose agents were concerned in the transactions in question. Mr Justice Stringer, in receiving the verdict, said ho quite agreed with the rider, which he would forward to tho proper authorities. “It is intolerable,” he said, “that business of this character should be carried on by men who have no more sense of responsibility than is shown by the evidence to have been possessed by the persons concerned in these transactions.”
