DUNEDIN FIRE BOARD.

The monthly meeting of the Dunedin Fire Board was hold yesterday afternoon, and was attended by Messrs J. W ilson (chairman), T. .Chahuer, J. S. Hislop, W. A. Scott, and F. T. Anderson. FIRE CHIEF’S REPORT. In his monthly report, Fire Chief A. G. Napier stated that 23 calls were attended by the various sections of the brigade during the month under review. Ton were actual fires in or on property, four were chimney fires, three bush or rubbish fires, four malicious false alarms, and one each an automatic and .accidental false alarm. The brigade officer in charge of the motors and electrical plant had resigned his appointment in order to go into business in Australia. It was not intended to recommend that this position be filled, in the meanwhile. William Morrison, a junior foreman, had. with the approval of the - committee of the board, been appointed senior foreman, and is still stationed at the Central Station. Several probationary firemen will be tried out in order that the brigade may be kept up to strength during the period in which a detail of trained men will, of necessity, be told off for duty at the Exhibition grounds. The various stations and plant of the brigade were in good order and condition. The report was adopted. EXHIBITION FIRE STAFF. Fire Chief Napier reported that a fire patrol of two trained fire brigadesnien was, in .accordance with instructions, furnished at the Exhibition buildings from October 13, * and this would, in the near future, be supplemented by the full staff authorised for this special duty—four brigadesmen, motor plant, fire tflarm system,and all necessary gear. Arrangements for the permanent stationing of tiie brigade staff at the Exhibition grounds were now. well in hand, and ho was prepared, at short notice, to carry on in this matter. In connection with the housing of the special brigade staff at the Exhibition, the general manager for the Exhibition Company wrote stating that ho was considering the question of furnishing the quarters provided for the firemen at the Exhibition. When completed he wished to arrange for the brigade staff to take up their residence at the Exhibition quarters. It , was hoped that all the arrangements would be completed this week. The report was adopted, and tho Exhibition manager’s letter received. AMBULANCE TRANSPORT. . The motors of the St. John Ambulance had responded to 111 calls during September The motors travelled a total of 638 miles in carrying out this work. Tho ambulances were in good order and condition. GENERAL. The General Committee reported that requisitions for various stores had been approved. Accounts amounting to £ll2B 17s 8d were passed for payment.
