A FAVOURABLE REPORT.

POWER BOARD’S PRO-

POSALS

EXTENDING THE OUTER AREAS. Since the Ofago Electric Power Board first started operations, several inquiries have- 'been directed to members and of the board with reference to possible extensions of the inner area and the obtaining of power supply in the present outer area. The main districts included are those in and around. Owaka, Clinton, and tho Borough of Lawrence. SUPPLY FOR LAWRENCE. Reporting to the board yesterday, tho engineer-manager, Mr A. P. Aldvidge, stated that tho most recent inquiry was from the Town Clerk of Lawrence asking on what terms the board would be preiiared to supply that borough. Personally, le thought, the time was now ripe to extend tho inner area in order to embrace those and other districts, if the prospect was at all profitable, and if it could be done without prejudicially affecting tho ratepayers in the inner area. He, therefore, recommended that the board should seriously consider tho matter, and if it was considered desirable, giant authority for the survey of areas likely to prove financially sound, with the object cf hnving these gazetted as part of the inner area. The survey would embrace the ccst of reticulation, and the probablo revenue to be derived from the sale of electricity in tho various localities. A PROFITABLE PROPOSAL. "It ie likely," continued tho «>■■;;,ireer, "that the materials would not to to hard sufficiently early to affect the present reticulation so far as the more closely populated portions of our districts arc concerned. I anticipate that the maximum demand from these proposed extensions will not occur simultaneously with thai of tho present area, and will, therefore, tend to increase our load-factor in a manner profitable to the ultimate operation of the system." The report, was adopted, and tho engineer was instructed to make preliminary inquiries with a view to determining the portions of the outer ward which could bo profitably included in the inner area. The matter was held over pending his report ro another meeting.
