ARCHER FIELD BAZAAR

A SUCCESSFUL, FUNCTION. |l„m< Ha.ll wan a hive of industry on Saturday afternoon and evening, when a siKvially well-organised Itazaar was held, the objects of which were to aid the school equipment fund of Arohefield College. The teachers, students, and friends of the college had co-operated in arranging the bazaar and stocking the various stalls, and the result was an excellent display of goods, both useful and ornamental. There was a gorgeous display of spring blooms, most of which were 'sent specially by Sir Heaton Rhodes from his private garden. Another interesting exhibit was a doll's bedroom suite made of oak, which was complete in every detail. These articles wore made by Mr A. Taylor, father of one of the students. The decoration of the hall was undertaken by the students and their friends, and was a striking feature. The effect, which was dainty in the extreme, was enhanced by hosts of balloons of several colours. Mrs Nisbet said that before calling on Miss M. I. Fraser to perform the opedmig ceremony, ehe should like to acknowledge her indebtedness to the ex-students for the valuable assistance they had given towards making the function a success. She said it was extremely gratifying to see how tho girls- remembered their old college and showed a spirit .which tended to foster solidarity and good fellowship. Miss Fraser said that before consenting to perform the opening ceremony she was desirous of knowing what the bazaar was in aid of, and when she was informed that it was to assist in procuring equipment she was delighted. It could not be expected that the fees paid by students would bo sufficient to provide adequate equipments The equipment of a class room was an essential and necessary part of the institution. When she (tho speaker) attended Madame Laibitski’s college the fees were much higher than were paid at Archerfiold. She charged 12gr>s a term. The equipment of a Government primary school cost something like £l2 a year per pupil, and it could not be expected that Mrs Nisbet should provide all the equipment necessary out of the small fees charged. She hoped that the monetary result would be satisfactory and that Archerfield College would benefit. She had much pleasure in declaring the sale of work open. —(Applause.) Miss Linda Rodger then presented Miss Fraser with two handsome bouquets of violets. Tho following are tho names of the stallholders : Work Stall.—Mcsdames A. Geddos, W. H.
