THE GENERAL ELECTION. , REFORM CANDIDATES. CFaoa On® Own Correspondent.) WELLINGTON, August A The News Letter states that in -view of the general election, which may be expected to take place before the first week in December, and possibly much earlier, it'ls as well that supporters of the Reform Party should bear in mind that apart from the sitting members the following candidates have been officially approved by the party Leaders following their selection at the conference held by the Reform Party delegates elected by the party supporters at the several centres in each electorate: — Maradon. —Mr W. Jones (Whangarei). Auckland East.—Mr James Stewart. Auckland West. —Mr Samuel OldfiekL Manukau.—Mr John Massey. Waikato.—Mr D. Stewart Reid, Taranaki. —Mr C. E. Bellringer Stratford. —Mr E. Walter. Pa tea —Mr H. G. DiokeL Wanganui.—Mr J. Couil. Napier.—Mr J. Mason. Hawke’s Bay. —Mr Hugh Campbell. Pahiatua. —Mr M'NiooL Oroua. —Mr Gordon Elliott. Wellington East; —Mr T. Forsyth, Ellesmere. —Mr David Jones. Clutha. —Mr Fred Waits, Wallace. —Mr Adam Hamilton. Wakatipu.— Mr James Ritchie (Bannock burn). _ Invercargill.—Mr S. M'Donald. Awarua. —Mr J. R. Hamilton. The paper adds; “Arrangements are ito train for affording other constituencies noi represented by Reform supporters the opportunity of selecting candidate# fofapproval by the party leaden, and as they are officially endorsed, their names will bs added to the list. There seems to be an impression in certain quarters _ that Mr Massey’s death releases the candidates who foiled to secure nomination by the local executives from the pledge they gay© that they would loyally abide by the decisions of the party conferences and agree to support the successful candidate. It seems necessary, therefore, to remind those who have taken that view that the pledge they signed was that they would loyally the candidate selected to stand in the interest# of the Reform Party at the next election. Both candidates and delegates pledged themselves in that direction, and it is a Diere quibble to say that because one loader; has given place to another a pledge given_to the party no longer holds good. The Reform Party supporters are further requested to rally around the officially selected oancudatos and to urge their friends to support such candidates only. The candidates other than those officially endorsed who offer themselves in the Reform interests are really doing the party ill-service by creating divisions which may seriously .affect the position, as was the ojte in at least five electorates in 1922. which were lost te the party through the splitting of the, vote. GREY LYNN ELECTORATE. - OFFICIAL REFORM CANDIDATE. ; (Per United Pbess Association.! , AUCKLAND, August' 4. •A meeting of the Reform Party in Anolo land to-night selected Miss Ellen Melville as the official candidate for the Grey Lynn electorate.
