(Received June 4, at 5.5 p.m.) Tho jury returned a verdict that George Jeffery wilfully murdered Joan Ammett. —A. and N.Z. Cable. Towards the end of April George Jeffery, a garden boy on an Fridge estate, was arrested and charged with tlie murder of Joan Ammett, a little girl who was found dead a few days previously near Cruwhorough with her head battered and her throat cut. Jeffery is a pale, delicate boy, aged 15 years. At the trial tho prosecution stated that the girl s skull was fractured, and that there wore 14 wounds iin her head and neck, which might have been caused by a penknife. Tho police gave evidence that the boy had voluntarily made a statement that lie committed the crime.
