SAMOAN FAIPULES.
WELCOMED BY MAORI CHIEFS. AN HISTORIC MEETING. (Per United Press Association.) ■ ROTORUA, December 8. Saturday saw an historic meeting at Tamatekapua between the Samoan Faipules and the representatives of the Maori race — the first recorded for. xOOO years. The Arawa chiefs welcomed the Samoans with intense cordiality, to which Mr Toe Lupe, the spokesman for the Samoans, replied. Dr To Rangi Hiroa, for the visiting officials of the New Zealand Government, in a groat speech detailed the history of the Polynesian migration and the significance of the reunion. It was recognised, he said, by the Samoan and the Maori that the races wore identical in custom, tradition, and language, the last-named only differing in form. The Samoans w r ere shown over the district, and were immensely impressed.
