THREE HOURS IN THE WATER.
WELLINGTON MAN’S EXPERIENCE. RESCUED JUST IN TIME. (Per United Press Association.) WELLINGTON, December 8. • A narrow escape from drowning was experienced in Wellington Harbour on Saturday by a well-known local merchant, Mr Bertie Smith. While he was rowing on the harbour his skiff became waterlogged, and he was obliged to lake to the water, using the oars to support him. He endeavoured to attract the attention of passing steamers and yachts, but unsuccessfully, and when eventually picked up by the yacht Rona after being in the water about three hours ho was almost exhausted, ana could have lasted only a few minutes longer. Ho experienced no ill-effects.
