MELBOURNE POLICE STRIKE
COMMISSION OB' INQUIRY. LIMITATION OF ITS SCOPE. Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright. MELBOURNE, December 8. An unexpected development occurred at a sitting of the Royal Commission which is inquiring into the circumstances of the police strike, when the chairman (Sir John Monash) announced that a fresh commission had been received limiting the scope of the inquiry to the general 4 state of efficiency and conditions of the force before the strike, the causes that moved the meni-to refuse duty, and the consequences that arose. The matters that have been removed from the scope of the inquiry are the present state of the force and the necessity, if any, of better police protection throughout Victoria, This is regarded as an intimation from the new Ministry that' it wishes the in quiry to end as soon as possible.
