ALHAMBRA FOOTBALL CLUB.

ANNUAL, SMOKE CONCERT. Tim annual smoke concert of the Alhambra Football Club was held in Kroon’s Hall last night. Hr G. M'Kon/de presided over a large attendance. The Chairman, in proposing the toast of the 0.R.F.U., said that that body had done a great deal for football. He referred to the great amount of money reouirntl to run football. Mr If. If. K. White, in replying, congratulated the club on the improvement it had made to its grounds. Mr A. nclTernan also replied, stating that if the Alhambra kept together like the “old hands” there was great success ahead for them. ?dr G. M'Laren proposed the toast of “The Alhambra Football Club.” He said the club bad a history of which it could bo proud. He told how the Alhambra Club started the system of playing a second live-eighth. Ho said the two best games he had seen were Maoris v. Otago and Old Hoys (Christchurch) v. University, because the forwards had thrown the ball about like backs. Footballers nowadays were spoon-fed. The chib had a good record. Football, however, was not everything, and unless it could nut build up men it availed them nothing. Mr ,T. King, in reply, said a man should play for tho club’s sake. Ho said the club was indebted to the tine body of men it had working for it. , Other toasts honoured were “The Referees’ Association," “The City Corporation,” and “Sister Clnbs.” Items were given by Messrs C. and G. Marsden, Ansell, Fowler, Taylor, Caldor, and llollowman.
