After an absence of nearly three years tho Rev. W. F. Kennedy and Mrs Kennedy are revisiting Dunedin. Our Wellington correspondent reports that Sir John Salmond. who has been confined to his room for some time past, is now ill in a private hospital. Mr P. H. Kinsman, inspector of factories of this city, loft by the Moeraki on Thursday evening, with his wife and family, to spend a holiday in Melbourne. Private advice has been received announcing the death of Mrs Robinson, widow of Archdeacon Robinson, who was formerly iu charge of St. Paul’s Cathedral. The late Mrs Robinson had resided at Bournemouth for a number of years. Mr V. 11. Potter (tho member for Roskill) was taken suddenly ill on Thursday (reports our correspondent), and wus unable to be present in the House of Representatives yesterday, but is reported to be much better. Mrs Jas. King, who passed away at her homo in North Balclutha on Friday, September 12, at the advanced age of 85 years, oame to Now Zealand in tho ship Pladdn in 1861. After her marriage to Mr King they resided at Benhar for 37 years, . and since her husband’s death 20 years ago deceased had lived at North Balclutha. She was much loved by her family and by all who knew her, and was called by many the endearing name of “Granny.” She was of a gonial and kind disposition. There is a family of threo daughters, three sons. 19 grandchildren, and ono great-grandchild left to mourn their loss. Miss B. Thompson was entertained at afternoon tea yesterday at the Excelsior Hotel by the Dunedin staff of the A.M.P. Society. Miss Thompson has been for many years with the society, and is severing her connection on the occasion of hexmarriage. Mr B. K. Stock, the district manager, in presenting her with a canteen of cutlery and a cheque, expressed tho hope that these little tokens would in future years bring to mind her old comrades and the life in tho office. Miss Thompson thanked those present for their kind recognition of her services. A very pleasant social hour, was afterwards spent, and all present wished Miss Thompson every happiness in (he future. The death occurred at Invercargill last week of Mrs Hugh M’Caw, who was horn at Anderson’eßay in 1853. She was the daughter of Mr Alexander Todd, a banker in Glasgow. who came out to Now Zealand in the Mooltan. landing in Otago on Christmas Day, 1849. The family later removed to Islington, East Taiori. In 1876 deceased married Dr Hugh M‘Caw, who was then practising in tho Taieri. There was a family of four sons and two daughters. One son, Archibald Graham, died in infancy, and Hugh John, who served as a naval surgeon during tho war, died in 1910 in London. The remaining members of tho family are; Dr A. T. M‘Caw, Invercargill Dr W. C. M’Caw, Auckland; Mrs Malcolm M'Adanx, of Glongyle, Frankton: and M>ss Margaret Crawford M'Cnw, of Grasmere. Mr W. C. Todd, of Islington, East Taiori, is th© only survivink brother of the deceased ladv. The funeral of Mr Louis Souquet, who was killed in a motor cycle accident on the Upper Junction road on Wednesday evening, took place at tho Anderson’s Bay Cemetery yesterday, and was attended bv a largo number of officers and members of Dunedin City Lodge, 4430 G.L.E., N.Z., 9, of tho Royal Antediluvian Order of Buffaloes, and representatives of the Alhambra Football Club, cf which deceased was a member. Officers and members of the Otago No. 1 G.E.8., with their Grand Lodge officers, were also in attendance. Brn. Walter Bentley acted as funeral marshal, and the cortege was a very impressive one, with tho lodco regalia, jewels, aprons, etc. Bro. Gilbert Ward. O.P. Lodge Master, road tho Buffalo burial ceremony. every member dropping an ivv leaf on tho grave, after which the closing hymn was sung. The Rev. Father Inder officiated at the graveside.
