KAIKORAI PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH.
ANNUAL MEETING. Tho fifty-sixth annual -meeting of Karkorai Presbyterian congregation was held on Wednesday, September 3, in the Sunday School Hall, the minister (tho Rev. \V. K. Hutchison) presiding. In his review of the past year, the minister said that much good work had been accomplished, for which they owed thanks to Almighty God. His five years’ ministry in Kaikorai had been a great joy to him, and ho sincerely thanked bis office-bearers and people for their generous co-operation, love, and loyalty towards Mrs Hutchison and himself. He was especially pleased to have so many of the young people from the Bible classes corning forward to join the communicant membership of the church. Tho institution of “Church Night” had helped to increase tbs attendance at the mid-week service, but there was still room for improvement in that respect. Tho report of tho Kirk Session showed all tho organisations connected with the church to be in a healthy condition, and steady progress was being made. Tho utmost harmony had prevailed throughout the year, for which the session gavo humble thanks to God. Removals for tho year were 37. Admissions were IX from other congregations, and 22 by profession of faith, leaving a present communicant membership of 204. The Sabbath schools were under tho control of trained teachers, and hud secured good results at tho annual examinations. It was proposed to fonm an Intermediate Bible Class for girls, and it was hoped this would still further increase the efficiency. Kaikorai Church appreciates its young people, and was not slow to give them a. place in the‘management of its affairs, as four of tho young men from tho Senior Bible Class were now on the Board of Managers. The managers’ repost showed a total revenue from all sources of £945, of which £250 was for debt reduction, and £ll4 for Assembly schemes. Tho envelope system had been mainly responsible for an increase of £SO in tho ordinary contributions as compared with last year. The meeting unanimously agreed to increase the stipend by £25 per annum. The Rev. John Pringle, M.A., of Chalmers Church congratulated the congregation on a successful year, and especially on th© number of young communicants received- He stressed the value of 00-operation in their service, and exhorted the members to greater Consecration.
The following were elected to tho Committee of Management—viz., Messrs Munro, Heenan, Hunter, Ness, and Haigh. It was agreed to set up a special committee to consider ways and means of establishing a separate fund for Indian Missions, to be called the "Dr Leslie Sutherland Fund.”
It was also agreed to elect Dr Sutherland associate older in the church, and the Kirk Session was asked to add his name to tho Session roll.
During the evening musical items were contributed by Misses Bartlett and Hanna, and supper was handed round by th© ladies. The meeting was closed with tho benediction.
