RETURNED SOLDIERS’ ASSOCIATION.

EXECUTIVE MEETING. The usual mooting of the Executive of the Returned Soldiers’ Association was held last night, Mr J. M'Crae (president) occupying the chair. There was a fuli attendance of members. One new member was admitted and three transfers in were received. The Secretary (Mr A. C. Laing) reported that the petition regarding discharged soldiers’ settlement loans would probably be considered by the Parliamentary Committee on Wednesday next. —Replies were received from, the Auckland and Christchurch associations supporting the action of the Dunedin Association. The Christchurch Association suggested that when the petition was being considered by the Parliamentary Committee representatives of the other associations should be requested to give evidence as to tbe demands for houses among returned soldiers in various parts of tbe dominion.—The meeting considered that more support would be gained if the associations communicated direct with tbeir various M.P.’s, asking for their support in the matter, and the secretary was instructed to communicate with the other associations accordingly. The General Secretary of the R.S.A. wrote advising that a meeting of tho Dominion Executive would bo held in Wellington, commencing on September 20. — Messrs A.' C. Laing and J. D. Forbes (Oamarn) will represent Otago and Southland Associations at Wellington. Mr E. S. Wilson, secretary of the Soldiers’ Club Building Fund, forwarded an audited balance sheet of the receipts and expenditure connected with the fund.—The balance sheet was received, and a vote of thanks was accorded tho Building Committee for its work. The secretary was instructed to ascertain the personnel of the committee with a vow to taking further action in tho matter of recognising their efforts.

A letter, which was signed by 11 exsoldier taxi-drivers, was received, asking tho association to approach the City Council and to protest against the recent increase in the annual license fee.—Tho letter was referred to the Finance Committee, asking it to inquire into tho matter and to report to the next meeting. Tho Secretary reported that arrangements had been completed for the holding of a reunion of returned sodiers in St. Paul’s Schoolroom next Monday night.—The Reunion Committee recommended _ that no charge he made, but that admission tick eta he issued from the R.S.A. office. —It was decided to act on the recommendation.
