RED CROSS SOCIETY.

Tho monthly meeting' of the Red Cross Society, held on Monday afternoon, was attended by tho Rev. V. G. Bryan Kin# (in the chair), Mrs George Roberts, Miss Williams. Miss Rattray, Miss Graham, Messrs C. li. Smith. E. A. Rosevear, and R. Conn.

The Secretary reported Tint Mr Rosevear amd he had duly gone into tho matter of liabilities incurred by the society outside of the Monlecillo Home, and particulars had been forwarded to headquarters, Wellington.—Tne report was approved. Tho Chairman advised that Dr A. R. Falconer, who had assisted to establish the Joint Peace Council, Red Cross and Order of .St. John, was visiting tho United States, and ho had furnished him with a letter of introduction to the American Red Cross Society.—Approved. A letter was received from a returned soldier thanking the society for a very acceptable parcel of clothing. An application for blankets was received from a soldier patient at Oamaru. a T.B case. Miss William? reported that a parrel had been forwarded.—Miss Williams’s action wa s approved. Two applications for clothing were received from ex-soldiers in the country.—The Secretary advised that he had written to the applicants for necessary information fertile committee.—Approved. The applications to be further considered on receipt of the replies. Jn regard to a returned soldier who was suffering severe disability, the Secretary reported thqt measures had been taken to improve matters for him if possible.—The secretary’s action was confirmed. For the information of the committee. Miss Graham and Miss Williams furnished a report in reference to the circumstances of another soldier.—The secretary was instructed io forward a loiter, on tho lines of ttio report. Tho Matron at Monlecillo reported that during the month one patient had been discharged and one admitted. There were at present 26 patients in the home. Everything was working smoothly. A number of friends had sent along some very acceptable gifts for the soldier patients, and their kindness was much appreciated. .Special mention was made of Messrs Thomson s (Ltd.), who had for a long time kept the home'supplied with mineral waters free of charge.—On the motion of Miss Williams, seconded by Miss Graham, it was resolved that the committee place on record its high appreciation of Messrs Thomson 3 action in supplying mineral waters free for so long a period. Miss Williams advised that tho services of* a kitchcnmaid were required at _ tho homo, and applications had been invited by advertisement. —Approved. For the Monlecillo Committee Mr Rofevear reported that the work in connection with tho window's and ventilators was completed and wa s very satisfactory. The result was that conditions for the patients were still further improved. In confirmation of the matron’s report everything at the home was working satisfactorily. the gardener had been doing good work, With the result that the grounds were looking attractive and satisfying. , . . Mr s Roberts reported that the usual visits had been made to the Dunedin and M mean capitals and comforts dispensed to soldier Pa Ladv- S Forguscn. who is making a trip to the United States, applied for leave of absence.—lt was resolved that leave be granted, and the secretary convoy to Lady nerguson the committee’s goodwill and best " Tim’ monthly financial statement showed a satisfactory' balance.—On the motion of Mr Rosevoar, seconded by Miss nut trey, Ihe statement was adopted, and accounts certified by tho treasurers were passed lor payment.
