RUAPEHU SKI CLUB.

ANNUAL SPORTS MEETING. (Pz* United Press Association.* TAUMARUNUI, August 25. The second annual sports meeting under the auspices of tho Ruapehu Ski Glub was held at Tongariro National Park on Saturday. over 50 competitors and spectators being present. Tho we-ather was gloriously tine. The sports were held at an altitude of about 4000 feet, a little below Salts, but where an excellent ski course was marked out. The party left the Whakapapa huts at about 10 o’clock, the first, race being run about mid-day, after which tho party had lunch on the mountain. Numerous photographers were present, including a representative of the New Zealand Kinema Company, who obtained some fine moving pictures of the sports in progress and the party ascending tho mountain. The sports were very keenly contested. There were large entries in all the events, which were not all concluded by 5 o’clock, and it was decided to hold the remaining events—the Jump and the Men’s and Ladies’ Consolation Races —to-day. The Interprovincial Relay Race created great interest, Wellington winning after a verv exciting contest. The turning events, which wore a great test of skill on tho skis, were spectacular, the winner, L. N. Scott, putting up a fine performance. C. S. Cooper ran him close for second place. Scott is the holder of the challenge cup, and probably will retain the trophy, though the result of the jump may affect tho position.

The winners of tho various events were as follow:

Men’s Cross-country Race. —L. N. Scott (Auckland) 1, T. Dnxfjeld (Ranrimu) 2. O. S. Cooper (Wanganui) 3. Won by 25 yards. Sixteen started. Ladies’ Grand Slam.—E. Lamount (Auckland) 1, B. Price (Wanganui) 2, K. Galagher (Wanganui) 3. Twelve started. A close finish. Men’s Grand Slam.—M. L. Leonard (Auckland) 1. J. W. Gittos (Auckland) 2. S. Taylor (Wellington) 3. Seventeen started. Won easily. Ladies’ Special Race.—K. Galagher (Wanganui) 1, E. Lament (Auckland) 2. IT. Corlett (Taumarunui) 3. Twelve started. Won comfortably.

Men’s Turning.—l,. N. Scott (Auckland) 1. C. S. Cooper (Wanganui) 2, J. W. Wilks (Wanganui) 3. Twelve started. Ladies’ Toboggan Race.—M. Shaw (Wellington) 1, E. Lament (Auckland) 2, M. Calver (Wanganui) 3. Seventeen started Tnterpovincial Relay Race (Men). —Wellington (Salt (captain). Avres. Cooper, Hamilton) defeated .Auckland (Gittos (captain), Leonard, Scou. Galvin). At the annual meeting of the Ski Club, held on Saturday evening. Mr W. Salt presided over an attendance of 40 members. The hostel site was discussed, the members expressing the opinion that the Ruapehu Ski Club should support the Tararua Tramping Club in its protest against the choice of the Haunted Whare as the site for the hostel. The following resolution was carried unanimously“ That tho Minister of Lands be asked to roouest the National Park Board to reconsider _ the selection of the hostel site in the National Park and that the Ruanehu Ski Club’s opinion of the present site be indicated in the same communication and that it, be suggested that the hostel be erected in the vicinity of the Whakapapa huts.”
