ADVERTISING NEW ZEALAND.

PLAIN FACTS WANTED. STATEMENT BY MR MASSEY. (From On.u Own Correspondent.) WELLINGTON, August 25. Speaking at Levin today, Mr Massey made a brie! reference lo the British Empire Exhibition and New Zealand's part m it. ‘T have no doubt.” he said, “that in England to-day the visitors from New Zealand are having a particularly good time. I know from letters I have received they aro enjoying themselves. New Zealanders are respected in England more than people from any other portion of the Empire. I think we have every reason to bo proud of the country to which wo belong. I think we can bo proud of its productiveness, of its scenery, and particularly of the industry of its people. A couple of generations ago New Zealand was on the map, and that is all. Look round to-day at the towns and the settlements. It is almost a miracle. They say our exhibition is not as successful as it should have been. Something seems to have gone wrong. I think wo had the exhibits all right. What wo seem to have missed is the artistic display. Wo don’t seem to have the people at Home who can bring the artist into play. Wo have authorised the expenditure of £IOO,OOO. and we will lie lucky if we get out of it at £IOO,OOO. We should take every opportunity to advertise Now Zealand without boosting or boasting, but by giving the plain facts and letting the people judge for themselves. They won’t go away disappointed.”
