The Prince of Wales unexpectedly boarded the Berengaria during the early hours of Saturday morning, after spending part of the night at the residence of Lord Louis Mountbatten, at Nunwell, near Ryde. “It’s all right; I am going to America with you,’’ said the Prince, climbing the rope ladder from a motor launch. The crowds at Southampton were disappointed at missing the Prince. The correspondent of the Sunday Express, wirelessing from the Berengaria at sea on Saturday night, says that the Prince walked the deck looking nervous and unhappy, but when he saw that the other passengers did not observe him he recovered his composure and danced m the evening.-—A. and N.Z. Cable. WELCOMED FROM THE AIR. A BODYGUARD OF STALWARTS. NEW YORK, August 24. (Received August 25, at 9.25 p.m.) A telegram from White Plains says that four State troopers of an aggregate weight of 4421 b and an aggregate height of 24ft 3in will meet the Prince of Wales when the Berengaria docks and form his bodyguard during the whole time he is in New York to restrain uninvited persons from endeavouring to force their attentions upon him. Major William Hensley, Commandant at Mitchell Field, will fly in an aeroplane over the Berengaria as she enters the harbour to ewlcomo the Prince of Wales. His aeroplane will 100 equipped With a radio transmitter and receiver connected with an amplifier at Mitchell Field, which will transmit Major Hensley’s words over the wire to the local station, whence they will be broadcasted to the world. Thus the Radio Corporation of America announces that the King and Queen of England may “listen-in” to the welcome if they desire. —Reuter.
