Speaking at a Government dinner in his honour, Admiral Sir Frederick i'ield strongly contested the view .that naval defeiicie could be effected by aircraft and submarines. He said that surface vessels would he necessary as long as trade was carried by surface craft, tie stressed the need of maintaining defensive measures for the trade routes ot the Empire. , The Prim© Minister (Mr Mackenzie King), in proposing the toast "The Admiral,” said that some people were apt to criticise Canada’s Navy, but he declared that “the Canadian .Naval service is the new blood Hn a great naval power which as meant so much in the history of the world, but should a critical situation ever arise the new blood in any department of our national life may be’ expected to do its part in a manner which will do credit to the whole world.’ —Reuter. ______
