Papers tabled in the Assembly with reference to the sale of sawmills, until recently ran as a State enterprise, contain some remarkable allegations regarding an alleged powerful timber combine. According to these allegations, the grip tha,t the combines held on the consumers of timber in New South Wales is shown by the fact that the New Zealand Government obtained timber similar to that supplied to the New South Wales Railway Commissioners at from 3s to 7s per 100 ft lower, landed at New Zealand norts, than the price paid by the Commissioners at Syduey. __________
