RECEIVING STOLEN GOODS.
(Pee United Peess Association.) WELLINGTON, August 22. John Edward Fitzgerald, a well-known citizen, formerly a motor garage proprietor, appeared before the Supremo Court on his second trial for the alleged receiving of stolon motor tyres valued at £l2O, for the theft of which Roy W. Spencer is now serving a sentence of three years’ imprisonment. Ilia Honor said the Spencer’s story concerning what had taken place had not been contradicted and had not been shaken in cross-examination. The jury had to reconcile the statement with Fitzgerald’s story, which was that ho had obtained the motor tyros honestly. 'Hie prisoner must have known that the tyros were not obtained honestly. After three-quarters of an hour's retirement the jury returned a verdict of guilty of receiving. Sentence was deferred till Monday.
