HANGING IN SPACE

A MIRACULOUS ESCAPE.

ALPINISTS’ THRILLING EXPERIENCE. Praao Association —By Talcgrapb—Copyright. LONDON, August 13. (Received August 13, at 7.10 p.m.) The Daily Express’s Geneva correspondent says that three young Italians who were corded together without a guide fell 500 feet when near the summit of “The Grand Deitil” (11,420 ft) one of the most famous peaks of the Mount Blanc range. . . The cord struck an overhanging rocK, miraculously supporting them as they hung helplessly in space over a glacier 2000 feet below. The accident was witnessed through a telescope from Chamonix, and the alpinists were rescued after hanging for six hours —one with a broken leg, the second half mad with pain from his internal injuries, and the third suffering from slight wounds. —A. and N.Z.
