JUNIOR HIGH SCHOOL.
OPINION IN OAMARU. THE PARENTS TO DECIDE. {From Opr Own Cop.'rf.st’Ondfnt.') WELLINGTON, August 12. The Minister of Education has received the following telegram from the secretary of the Oarnaru North School: “Iho matter of a junior High School will ne remitted to parents at a meeting on Thursday. The committee will accept their decision;’’ The Minister replied to-day: “I acknowledge your telegram informing me that the, Oarnaru North School Committee will remit the matter to parents at a meeting on Thursday. I presume that the school committee will take steps to sec that both sides of the question are. properly placed before the parents, otherwise they will have to vote in the dark or with their minds unfairly biased by the presentation of one side only. I shall be glad to know wlvat steps you arc taking to place the question fully before, the meeting. 1 would ask as the Director ot Education cannot possibly atte,nd that you invite Mr Milner and Miss Wilson to he present to furnish information to parents as to the junior High School proposal.” With reference to the statement published in the Oarnaru Mail last evening that the cost of the junior High School would he £14.000. the Minister of Education emphatically contradicted the rumour to-day. He said: “tJntii the architect gives me an estimate I cannot say exactly wlvat the figure will he, but tbe public may take it that the cost will not bo £14.000 or any sum approaching that, figure.” “It is unfortunate,” added the Minister, “that there are a few people in Oarnaru who will stop at no perversion of fact or wilful misrepresentation in their endeavours to obstruct the new movement to improve the education ot the children of Oarnaru.”
