STRANGE MEETING BETWEEN FATHER AND SON.

(Peb United Press Association.) AUCKLAND, July 7. A romance in real life has been revealed hero. Some four years ago a man who had been reduced to employment as a hotel porter inherited considerable property, and went to England, which he had left some 22 years previously, having them divorced his wife. Returning to New Zealand the man purchased some country property near Auckland, and one day there came to him on business a young man whose features seemed familiar to him. Some inquiries in regard to his mother's maiden name led the elder man to speak disparagingly of her, at which tho younger man grew indignant. Finally, tho elder man told tho younger that ho was the former’s son. Afterwards tho older man told the story to a friend, and said that what made him admire tho boy was that he had stood up for his mother. Tho father determined to test the young man, so ho did not divulge his actual financial position. A friendship developed between the two, and they met frequently. Then tho son invited the father to “is wedding, but tho latter refused very gruffly. The. father refused point blank to take any part in tho ceremony.
