A CHANGE OF NAME. DIRECT REPRESENTATION IN PARLIAMENT. (Peb United Press Association.) AUCKLAND, June 13. At a meeting of the Industrial Corporation of New Zealand it was resolved to change the name to the Now Zealand Manufacturers’ Corporation, with no change in the constitution. The question of dried representation in Parliament of manufacturers’ interests was discussed, and it was resolved: ‘‘That this corporation, while against the creation of another party in Parliament, desires direct representation in its interests therein, and urges tho different, industrial associations to try to persuade some of their members, acceptable to the respective political parties, (o submit themselves as prospective candidates; further, that this corporation take stops to see that, the candidates for Parliament are fully informed ns to the needs of local manufacturers, and that suitable questions bo submitted to all such candidates, with the object of ascertaining their attitude towards secondary industries.” The next conference and exhibition will bo held at Wellington. Mr L. T. Watkins was elected president, and Mr J. Findlay, secretary. It was resolved to request the Government to permit the introduction to secondary and technical schools of educational matter dealing with New Zealand in dustries. A resolution was passed expressing sympathy with those in the glass and bottle industry and others in a similar position who were struggling against overwhelming odds, arid urging the Government to grant reasonable protection. It was also decided to ask further that protection in any class of bottles not yet manufactured be withheld until local manufacturers were in a position to make adequate quantities and the Department of Industries reported that duty should be imposed. The annual dinner was held to-night.
