LOVE FINDS A WAY.

A NAVAL ROMANCE. ALL DIFFICULTIES OVERCOME. (From Our Own Correspondent.) AUCKLAND, Juno 13. Tho Auckland Registry Office yesterday provided the setting for an interesting little naval romance. It opened some, months ago, when a member of the culinary department of the Chatham fell a victim to young Cupid, tho lady in the case being an Auckland girl aged 20, employed in domestic service. Later, the young man was transferred as cook to the Dunedin, and the course of true love having run smoothly up to that stage of affairs, he proposed, and accepted. A post haste marriage was arranged, but the Dunedin will leave for Nukualofa on Monday next, and an unforscen hitch arose in the fact that tho young lady was a minor, and hud neither parents, guardian, nor relatives to give tho necessary consent to the marriage. In such circumstances 14 days’ notice of marriage is required, but in this case it was impossible to comply with the cold and unromantic requirements of the law, so legal advice was sought, and again tho old words came (rue. “Love will find a way.” The solicitor concerned, Mr Mouaf, suggested that at the eleventh hour guardianship be arranged to comply with the letter of tho law. He interviewed the girl’s employer, who willingly acceded to the request that he become her guardian pro tern, and next day a petition was presented to the Supreme Court praying for the appointment of her employer as guardian. The appointment was made, and the young couple duly presented themselves at the Registrar’s office yesterday morning, the bridegroom spick and span in his naval uniform, tho girl a proud and happy bride. The fates, however, are not showering too many roses on the bridal path, for tno bridegroom’s shore leave expired this morning, at half-past 7. and there is little chance of his seeing his lady love again before tho Dunedin returns from her cruise toward the end of the year.
