A .battle of millionaires will settle whether Nathan Leopold and Richard Loeb will be hanged, imprisoned, or go scot-free. They confessed to the kidnapping, murder, and disfiguration of Robert I'ranks, a schoolboy of 14. The father of the murdered boy said to-day that ho could command as many millions to secure a conviction as the defence could obtain for an acquittal on the ground of insanity. The latter will bo undoubtedly pleaded by Clarence Harrow, leading counsel engaged by the Leopolds. Dr Max Thorek, an alienist, declares that the boys suffer from sex perversion. They were petted and pampered, and got all the money they wanted; and, without moral restraint, they lost their moral balance. Dr Thorek added that there are thousands of such cases in Chicago.
Leopold is the youngest student who has graduated in the University of Chicago. He is the son of the president of the Morris Box Company. Loch’s father was formerly vice-president of the SearsRoebuck Company, a great mail-order house.
