At the Farmers’ Conference resolutions ■were, carried urging more assistance to maternity homes and nurses for the outlying districts, and that the Government be urged to bring in legislation facilitating the collection of rates due on Native lands. Daylight-saving was considered against the best interests of farmers, and as tending further to increase the drift from the country to the towns, and a motion opposing it was carried. The subject of dehorning cattle was keenly discussed when a remit came up •recommending all A. and P. societies to discontinue giving points for horns on cattle exhibited, and urging that they recommend that nil cattle be dehorned, particularly bulls. —The remit was withdrawn. It was resolved to urge the Government to plant pinns insignia and other suitable timbers on waste lands. ' The conference adopted a remit urging the Government to establish a course in veterinary science at the New Zealand University, thus enabling training and a diploma to be obtained.
