In the Davis Cup preliminary Britain secured a winning advantage, Yheatlcy defeating Richardson (South Africa), o— o, 6—4, 6—4.—Reuter. (Received June 12, at 7.30 p.m.) South Africa had bad luck, as they were unable to play Raymond owing to an injured ankle. Richardson played pluckily but was no match for Wheatley. The third set was the best, Richardson improving in close net play and leading A 1. Whcatly, fighting grimly, won Orchardson’s service, and later made it 4 all. By superb volleying he took the next four games and the match. Gilbert, except in the opening set, proved much cleverer than Spence ana won easily.—A. and-N.Z. Cable. THE KENT TOURNAMENT. LONDON, June 11. (Received June 12, at 5.5 p.m.) At the Kent tennis championships Mishu (Rumania) beat T. E. Clark (New Zealand), 5-3, 6-4.—A. and N.Z. Cable.
