Early this year several resolutions were introduced in the legislative chambers of the United States requesting the President to convene a world economic conference at Washington for the purpose of effecting international stabilisation. The official attitude then was that the time was inopportune, but it was stated that the United States would be willing to participate in such a conference as soon as the European nations indicated their readiness for it One of the resolutions which was introduced in the Senate requested the President to invite all the nations of the earth to meet at Washington and confer for throe months on economic matters, the promotion of an international trade understanding, and the establishment of territorial integrity and political independence.
