The streets were deserted, and all work on farms and stations had to be suspended. Mail drivers and those who had -lieen out in the country had to seek shelter, and owing to the density of the clouds of dtu-t it was impossible for them to proceed on their ways. A dust and rain storm of exceptional violence passed over Trangie and district. By noon the wind had increased to a gale, with dense cloud? of dust, and continued with cyclonic force till nearly sundown. The roofs of several building 3 were blown away. The western mail coach shortly after leaving Trangie ran into the worst of the storm, the dust being so dense that the driver sounded his whistle continuously for pome distance. Old hands in the district, declared that they had never experienced such weathar.
