Work was supposed to start at ,tho ' Pukeuri Freezing Works to-day, but' no , men were forthcoming when the whistle blew. This is apparently the outcome of a lengthy meeting of the union held last , night, as enough men had been engaged , previously for all departments. The secretary of the union refused to ; make any explanation, and the works will comments to-morrow with free labour. Any unionist applying will be taken on. The works are commencing under the team system of slaughtering, and no trouble is anticipated in getting sufficient men to carry on.
