FEDERAL SENATE RESULTS. Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright SYDNEY. January 5. Ex-Senator Grant (Labour) obtained the third Senate seat bv 3015 votes over Senator Thomas (Nationalist). Tho Labourites are jubilant at winning two of the three seats in the Federal Senate previously held by Nationalists. ITALIAN IMMIGRATION. SYDNEY. January 5. The New South Wales Cabinet discussed the question of Italian immigrants. Sir George Fiiller afterwards announced that the Government, realising the value of Italian immigrants of the agricultural type, was considering* means for their settlement, so preventing them from having to be sent back to Italy. TASMANIA’S FINANCES. HOBART, January 5. The State revenue for the six months ended December 51 decreased, by £22.881 compared with the corresponding period of 1921 ’ _____ FRENCH VISITORS. SYDNEY, January 5.' Admiral Gilly, of the French squadron, was engaged throughout the day in an interchange of official visits. To-day's engagement* include a State Government luncheon and a dinner by the Navy.
