ENTERTAINMENT.

On Monday evening last, the Presbyterian young people’s societies of First Church, St. Andrew’s, North-East Valley, Cavorshara, and South Dunedin, met in the social hall of the Caversham Benevolent Institution, when they gave their annual Christmas concert and supper to the inmates. The room was crowded on the occasion. Tho Rev. R. Fammiid, who presided, apologised for the unavoidable absence of the Rev. P. M. Beattie, P.S.S.A, chaplain to the institution. An admirable programme, consisting of vocal and instrumental items, recitations, dances, and party choruses, were well rendered and greatly appreciated by the audience, the various items being received with loud applause. At the close of the programme an abundant supply of good things of first quality furnished an excellent supper, which made a fitting climax to a most enjoyable evening. Mr Portcons, the manager of the institution, in a few well-chosen words, expressed the thanks of the inmates for tho great treqt they had had that evening; and warmly thanked the chairman qnd the various performers for their splendid entertainment, and wished them all the compliments of the season. “Auld Lang Syne” concluded the proceedings. The following contributed to the programme;—Mr Roi Don’s trio, Mr Sunderland’s party, Miss Lily Stevens’s pupils, the North-East Valley girls’ party, Misses Nancy Davidson, Phyllis Douglas, Sunderland, Bell, Mathcaan, Isabel Matheeon, Laura Bain, Morrison, Dcnsford, Sexton, Sinclair, Lily iStcvens, and Messrs 1). Nelson, R. Hunter, Briton, T. E. Sunderland, Mftck, Easton, Mathcson, Roberts, Vivian, Ogg, Ivan Davidson, Jack Stevens, and Jack Bannatyne. The accompanists were Misses Moss, M'Donald, and Mathe. son, and Mr Roi Don.
