Tho Green Island Ratepayers’ Association held a successful social evening on Tuesday to close the year’s work. , The chairman (Mr D. Taylor) stated that, although -the association was only l in its infancy it had done some good, and it intended to do its utmost in the future to make Green Island a better place to live in. lie appealed to nil the members present to introduce new members to swell their ranks and so extend the association’s sphere of usefulness. Misses Johns, O. Wildcn, M. Orange, E. Jones, Messrs A. Borley, R. P, Williams, J. 0. M’Lachlan, 11. Richmond, and Master R. Purvis contributed to l the evening’s cnierr tainment. All the items wore very warmly received, encores being the order of tho evenin" and little Miss Johns was repeatedly recalled. On tho motion of Mr B. Elisor,' a hearty vote of thanks was passed to the perfouners and to Mias Elsie Buchanan, who acted as accompanist. The evening was concluded with the singing of the National Anthem.
